Cyberith is improving the SteamVR support for their Virtualizer products by a new SteamVR Driver in 2019.

Cyberith’s SteamVR Driver enables to use the Virtualizer with any SteamVR games & applications, that allow to walk around (also called “free locomotion” or “walking locomotion”). Using this software tool, there is no need for an application to support the Virtualizer natively.

It works by registering the Virtualizer as an Input Device in SteamVR. The Virtualizer is detected similarly as a VR headest or as a controller. It sends movement data to SteamVR, which relays this data to the applications. It does so in the exact same way as it does with Vive controllers or other input devices.

The new application succeeds the SteamVR Emulator, which was launched in early 2018 to Cyberith’s Arcade Clients. The updated Driver software continues to work with any applications allowing for “free locomotion”. It does so in a more user friendly and a more customizable way.

A 2019 update of SteamVR added fully integrated support of the Virtualizer in combination with the provided Driver. The system is compatible with any “free locomotion” games & applications.
